Athletics Day

When I was 8 years old, our school had an Athletics Day. We all competed in lots of events, like High Jump, Long Jump, Vortex, Shot Put, Discus and Sprints.First, we ran to the courts and lined up. It was a warm sunny morning. All the children were talking and playing games on the green tiger turf courts. All the children were wearing different coloured hats, t-shirts, shorts. The boy house captains were dressed as girl mascots. We were waiting for Mr K to tell us what to do next.
Next, after we had marched around the big, cool, green, grassy field, we did long jump. We walked slowly to the grey, sandy, round sand pit, where the long jump was going to be. First, we had to tell Mrs Ashton our names and house groups. After that, we had our turns. Finally, it was  my turn. I ran as fast as I could. Once I got to the mat where we had to jump from, I swung my arms as hard as I could forwards, until I hit the soft ground. Mrs Ashton said I got 4.57 metres. When everyone had had their jumps, they went to Mrs Ashton. She told us that Nathanael had come first, then she said who came 2nd. I was hoping I would come 2nd, then she said my name. I was stoked.

Finally, we did Shot Put, my favourite event. We sprinted to the Shot Put and went to Mrs Kerr-bell to tell her our names and house groups Josh went first with the Shot Put. He pushed as far as he could and he got 2.2 metres, then it was my turn. I pushed as far as I could and it went 6.8 metres. When everybody had had their turn, we went over to Mrs Kerr-bell. She said who came 1st. I was praying that I would come 1st, then she said I came 1st. I was amazed.
It was a fun day, but I was very tired when I got home from school that afternoon.
