Running 600 Metres
I ran 600 metres at St Paul’s School, when I was 8 years old for Athletics Day.
The day before the race, we got into our house groups and there were lots of children sitting on desks, singing our house chant loudly to learn it. My house group sang loudly.
The next day, we got into our maroon hats, maroon tops, black shorts with the St Paul’s Emblem on them ready for the race. We went down to the Juniors and it was noisy. People were waiting, sitting on the wooden deck for Mr K to say who was going to race.
Finally, it was my turn to race. We all got into a lane waiting for teacher, Mr Emms, to shoot the cap gun and it sounded like a big bang. When it went off, I sprinted off. I was saving my energy for the last lap, then the noisy, old, rusty bell went. It was the last lap. When I finally got to the finish line, they said I came in 4th place. I was really happy.
I thought it was tiring, hard work but I was really happy that it was over and done with. I felt good that I came in 4th place.

Athletics Day
Next, after we had marched around the big, cool, green, grassy field, we did long jump. We walked slowly to the grey, sandy, round sand pit, where the long jump was going to be. First, we had to tell Mrs Ashton our names and house groups. After that, we had our turns. Finally, it was my turn. I ran as fast as I could. Once I got to the mat where we had to jump from, I swung my arms as hard as I could forwards, until I hit the soft ground. Mrs Ashton said I got 4.57 metres. When everyone had had their jumps, they went to Mrs Ashton. She told us that Nathanael had come first, then she said who came 2nd. I was hoping I would come 2nd, then she said my name. I was stoked.

Finally, we did Shot Put, my favourite event. We sprinted to the Shot Put and went to Mrs Kerr-bell to tell her our names and house groups Josh went first with the Shot Put. He pushed as far as he could and he got 2.2 metres, then it was my turn. I pushed as far as I could and it went 6.8 metres. When everybody had had their turn, we went over to Mrs Kerr-bell. She said who came 1st. I was praying that I would come 1st, then she said I came 1st. I was amazed.
It was a fun day, but I was very tired when I got home from school that afternoon.

King Arthur's Castle
Mrs Death read us the story of King Arthur, then we used three
different pieces of paper and combined them to show what his castle looked
like.

Earthquake Drill
This morning, our class did an earthquake drill. We had to drop, cover, hold. When the earthquake had finished, we had to walk slowly, gently and calmly to the field and go around all the things that were smashed and had fallen down. We went in a circle and called the roll to see if everyone was there.

The Pirates Destroy Our Ship
One day, they were out sailing in their deluxe sailing boat.
Suddenly, they saw some pirates with gold MSR sniper rifles, some gold RPGs, some machine guns and cannons in a big pirate ship so they screamed, “There are pirates! Let’s hide!”
They ran to find the steps leading to the galley. Chef O’Neale went down first, followed by Captain Anderson, but Captain Anderson didn’t get his arm down in time. The pirates fired a bullet. It went straight through Captain Anderson’s wrist. More shots were fired, and, finally, the boat was blown up.
Captain Anderson and Chef O’Neale jumped out of the boat into the cold, blue, pristine water and they swam to a little island. They crawled to a warm spot on the hot, smooth sand.
After they found a man in a shelter, Captain Anderson said, “Can you stitch me up?” His name was Jack Sparrow. He was a doctor. He was fixing his first aid kit.
Jack Sparrow stitched up Captain Anderson’s wrist.
The pirates never went by Captain Anderson and Chef O’Neale again because they were busy fighting other pirates. New Zealand's Olympic Legends

The Kiwi Crew
During the Olympics, I watched Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan race to win a pristine gold medal in Rowing in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The water was crystal clear.
The siren went. Off went the Kiwi crew.
Once they hit the water, they were off.
We all shouted, "Go the Kiwis!"
I had hope in New Zealand.
The oars sliced the water like a knife cutting meat. They were long and straight. The rowers' legs were going up and down fast as.
We then got in front of a canoe.
Once we got to the second quarter, We passed another canoe. We were coming second. I could see the finish line.
Hooray! We won!
I was so happy that we had won a gold medal. I am so happy that I am a New Zealander.
